Tower 801

At more than 50 years old, the aged drain, waste, and vent system serving Tower 801 was experiencing leaks and back-ups that frustrated residents and managers. Tired of costly and disruptive repairs, the owners sought to better understand the magnitude of the problem. They hired SageWater to perform a Pipe TEST (Technical Evaluation of System Threats) that used ultrasonic and metallurgic testing to determine the condition of the pipes. We measured pipe wall thickness in several locations and extracted pipe samples for lab analysis. The results revealed the kitchen stacks were in critical condition and many cast iron stacks were improperly supported, among other issues. Our final report provided owners with the forensic data they needed to prioritize repairs and an estimate that helped them establish a budget for an eventual system-wide pipe replacement.
