Upgrade Your Existing Components

One of the simplest ways to fix a failing system and gain numerous operational benefits is to replace your existing infrastructure with a more modern version—what we call a “like-in-kind” replacement. The technology has advanced significantly, so replacing your components such as a boiler, chiller, piping, or fan coil units can improve your mechanical system’s efficiency, which can reduce your energy and maintenance costs, even if there is no reconfiguration of the overall system design.

Convert Your System within the Footprint of Your Existing Configuration

Based on your building design or project scope, you may be limited to upgrading your HVAC infrastructure within the same footprint of your existing system configuration. Even then, you may enhance operational efficiency and resident satisfaction by converting to a new system design.

For example, we’ve worked with a multifamily owner to convert a building from a two-pipe hydronic system that required a whole building to be in heating or cooling mode, to one that decommissioned the chiller and introduced water source heat pumps (among other changes). This type of solution enabled the community to leverage their existing piping infrastructure configuration, but upgrade the system components to create a more energy-efficient solution that’s simpler to maintain and puts year-round or four-season climate control in resident units.
